Beijing near the train
For the high-speed train, the trip starts at Beijing North or Qinghe. Beijing North to Badaling Great Wall takes about 30 to 60 minutes, and Qinghe about 20 to 30 minutes. A base near either station keeps the morning simple.

Bus 877 leaves from Beitucheng subway station and takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. A hotel near that station suits travelers who prefer the bus.
A village in the Badaling area
Chadao, Shifosi and Shixia have classified rural guesthouses in the Badaling area. The wall opens at 06:30 from 1 April to 31 October, so a stay here lets you arrive early. Check how you will reach the gate and where the guesthouse is before you book.
Yanqing town
Yanqing is in the same district as Badaling but is not at the wall. If you stay there, plan how you will get to the gate. Do not assume a district name means a short walk.
If you also visit the Ming Tombs or Juyongguan
Both are in Changping district, not Yanqing. A base in Beijing is often easier for a trip that includes them.
