For most visitors, the standard adult ticket is the right choice: reserve it before a weekend or public holiday, carry the passport you booked with and treat the cable car as a separate decision. Visitors aged 60 and over should reserve their free ticket before they travel.

At the ticket office
A walk-up ticket is possible, and advance booking is not required. The ticket counter accepted cash, mobile payment and foreign bank cards in 2024. A free ticket for seniors is the exception, because that one must be reserved.
Online with your passport
Official channels run through WeChat: the mini program Changcheng Neiwai Lvyou and the account Badaling Changcheng. Since December 2025 the Jingtong platform also bundles official ticket channels, including Badaling. Bookings are tied to a passport or a permanent-resident ID, and the gate checks the passport, a QR code or a paper ticket.
The foreign visitor option
The Foreign Tourist Ticket option inside the Changcheng Neiwai Lvyou account leads to an outside provider, so compare the final total and the cancellation terms before you pay.
Seniors aged 60 and over
Seniors are asked to reserve a free ticket in advance through the Badaling Changcheng or Changcheng Neiwai Lvyou accounts and to show the original ID at entry. The rules name Chinese ID and senior cards, so if you travel on a foreign passport, bring it and ask in advance what is accepted.
Bring the original document
Carry the original of the document you booked with. The booking is tied to that document, and a photocopy or a photo of it is the weak option.
Daily limit
A limit of 65,000 visits per day was introduced on 1 June 2019. Check the current limit before public holidays, when entry queues are the usual problem. Arrive early.

Cable cars
The cable cars are sold separately. The north line is closed for maintenance until 25 December 2026, and the south line keeps running. A one-way ride costs about CNY 100.

Night program
The main night program of 2026 ran from 30 April to 6 October and had its own tickets. Do not count on an evening ticket outside that season.

The renewed China Great Wall Museum at the foot of the wall has reopened. Admission is not part of the wall ticket, so check the museum's current terms.
